Jefferson Community Action Programs (JEFFCAP) is Jefferson Parish’s agency dedicated to empowering as many families in Jefferson Parish and surrounding areas, including our elderly, disabled, economically disadvantaged, and youth through our various programs. Linkages have been built with federal, state, local, and private agencies to provide a wide array of services to meet the clients’ needs.

JEFFCAP offers programs ranging from Head Start to the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, from housing counseling, rental, and utility assistance, to helping families keep their homes and referrals to programs that offer temporary shelter for those who have lost their homes. Other programs include the distribution of food commodities and subsidizing meals for Head Start children.

Jefferson Community Action Programs (JeffCAP) aims to drastically improve the lives of Jefferson Parish citizens through a variety of social programs.

Created in 1965, JeffCAP was a product of the “War on Poverty” legislation spearheaded by Sargent Shriver and Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. As a local agency receiving federal funds, JeffCAP has a distinct mission of eradicating all poverty.

JeffCAP offers a variety of programs to assist clients in areas that provide an improved quality of life with the hope of one day eradicating poverty in Jefferson Parish. Through a strong community and Head Start center network, JeffCAP provides the following programs and services/

Each program and service contribute to the goal of the organization; however, the mechanisms of delivering the programs to key stakeholders are delineated between Head Start and Community Center.
